For the Gmas

I decided to make some things for the Grandmas for Mother's Day as well :) Grizz and I only have one Grandma each, and we treasure them so!

 I decided on potholders...  (these went to my gma)

 Using designer fabric I have on hand (I rarely buy designer fabric, but I love using it on projects like these!), I made each Grandma one square and one rectangle potholder.

 I also decided to throw in a hand towel to my gma - I made two of these while deciding what to make for my sister-in-law's birthday, but it just didn't seem right for her.

 I've already used one of the towels, but this one hadn't been used yet, so I squeezed it into gma's package. I'll post about them how I made them another time...

 And here are the potholders for Grizz's grandma's potholders.

**I use one layer of insul-brite and one layer of thin, cotton batting in my potholders. I save all of my batting leftovers from quilts for small projects like this! I believe that the square potholders are 8"x8" and the rectangular are 8"x10" - just don't ask me why I chose those sizes because I don't remember my reasoning! :)

Birthday Gift for a Sister

I gained my first sister when I was 19 (oldest brother got married). Then this past summer, I gained 3 more (I married a man with two sisters and my other brother got married later in the summer). 

Anyways, one of the "new" sisters had a birthday this past week. Sadly, she lives back in the Midwest, so we couldn't celebrate with her. However, I did get something made for her! (AND I got it mailed off in time... crazy!)

 The fabric came in a fat quarter bundle from Fabricworm (Pearl Bracelet in Lizzy House's "Hello Pilgrim," and Dots in Emily Taylor's "Verona") Yes, I did just have to go back to the website to find out the specifics about the fabric - I'm not used to needing to remember the names of my fabric since I usually just buy from JoAnns or thrift stores. Since I knew I wanted to make gifts, I decided to go with some better quality fabric - fabric worthy of remember its name! Ha.

 The pocket potholder was made following this tutorial from Prudent Baby.

I designed the second one by myself... just an 8" square with rounded off corners. The fabric was the leftovers from the cuts I made in the fat quarters for the pocket potholder - thus not having enough for a full brown side. I like the extra design element though that the dual side brings to the potholder.

 Quilting the second one was a lot easier - just needing to follow the lines I drew on with a invisible ink pen. The first one was quilted just following the previous line with my presser foot (thus, they got a little tilted as I was going along).

This was my first time making potholders and using Insul-Bright (special batting for anything that will be used near heat). It will not be my last time either!
