Spring Top Sew-Along

**Thank you to Grizz for taking the following pictures. I dislike being the subject in pictures, so bear with me.

Made-By-Rae is hosting a "Spring Top Sew-Along." I haven't sewn an article of clothing for myself (other than a random try at pajama pants from a vintage sheet this past winter) since I was in high school. Back then, I would sew 2 or 3 outfits a summer for 4-H fashion review. In that contest, you need to sew, accessorize, model and answer judges' questions. Everything had to be perfect...

Well, this isn't perfect, but it felt great sewing for myself again!

Pattern: Simplicity 1915
Fabric: Blue/Green Plaid Seersucker from JoAnns
Trim: White lace from my stash... it was either from Mom or that one craigslist purchase

I don't remember gathering anything by myself during my 4-H days, although I've watched my mom do it before. Thus, I was quite happy with how my neckline turned out...
Here's the picture I'm submitting into the sew-along... it had to be square and focus on the top. Wish me luck - there's prizes involved!

A little spotlight on the sleeves. I've never done anything like this either - the pattern said to fold up the fabric and then topstitch it in place... the lace is tucked up into the fold and also topstitched.

Overall, the pattern was a typical pattern... it doesn't go into great detail, but I'm no stranger to reading clothing patterns, so it didn't give me any trouble. The fabric worked well, and it feels like a perfect summer top! I look forward to wearing it!

Last shot from Grizz - our peas are growing!

  1. I love it! Haven't sewn clothing for myself in a coon's age, but I'll pick up this pattern next time I make a trip to town. Very cute and nice and cool in that seersucker. Well done!
