Well, it wasn't THAT early. We wake up around 6 during the week, so we slept in until about 6:20 this morning, ha!
There are five dams along the river out here, all in a row. There is a paved trail that goes throughout town and ends past the second dam. A dirt trail continues to the last three, but we hoped to get to the third dam, since the trail goes over the river there...
We started at the boxcars...
Went past dam #1 (Black Eagle)...
As the sun came up, that warm glow started beckoning me to start taking pics... This Silver Smelter ruin was the first target :)
Grizz was another target...
Finally, a water tower in the distance. Yay for morning light!
Here's dam #2 (Rainbow)
Taking a bit of a photography break :)
Grizz stole the camera for a second. It's a sign of Spring that we were bundled up with hats and gloves (and still our fingers were COLD!), and then we were in shorts this afternoon.
Here, the trail stops being paved and turns into a single lane, hilly, near-mountain-biking-quality dirt trail. I don't like mountain biking, so we got to the middle of this picture and we turned around. Thus, we did not make it down to the third dam. We're going back tomorrow morning to run this part just to see how far it goes and how hilly it is. Grizz will come back on his own to bike it (he likes mountain biking! ugh.)
On our way back we saw lots of geese...
... enjoyed the cliff swallow nests...
... and were surprised by this little critter.
Overall, we biked about 10.5 miles... not bad for an early, chilly Spring morning :)
