For My Spools

Before: I kept my spools in my hat box along with lots of ribbons, rick-rack and bias tape. (This picture was before organizing my loot!)

However, because my hat box couldn't fit near my sewing desk, I would end up hoarding spools of thread on the desk instead of putting them back in the hat box. Hmm... extra spools on the desk = clutter and clutter = dampened creativity.

Solution: a vintage colander! I found it at a cute little vintage shop in town :)

So now, this fits on my sewing desk, within reach of my machine. I just have to remember to wind up the tails so they don't get tangled together. It's still so much better than keeping the spools across the room! Yay for organization!

  2. Very cute idea! I just bought an absolutely GIANT bag of ribbon, lace and other sewing rick-rack, and I have no idea how to organize it! Luckily, most of them are on their original cardboard, so that might make it easier!
