Hexagon Progress

I now have 11 and a half double hexagon flowers sewn together! I'm just using all my scraps (which include the scraps I stole from my mom at Christmas). I'm still enjoying sewing these at school... the students always ask me what I'm making. Some actually seem interested, and most usually have a story of their own - "my grandma used to hand-sew quilts all the time," "my class made a quilt in middle school," "my mom is trying to get rid of all her fabric," "I still have the baby quilt someone made for me... it is so heavy." And so on and so forth. I love it that the students have at least some connection to sewing and/or quilting!

(The double flowers are not sewn together yet... I just laid them out to see them all together... and when the parents visited this past weekend, we had to lay them out again so Mom could see them all together, too!)

I'm getting an idea for spicin' this thing up, which may or may not include some embroidery... stay tuned ;)

  2. It's going to be a beautiful quilt. Are you hand stitching it all? It's so neat with all the points joining up.

  4. This reminds me of a quilt my great grandmother made when I was little. She did the hexagons all over it!

  7. Really like to do hexagon's when I need to some hand work to do. What size are you doing? I've got 2 going, 1 inch GmFG and then 3/4 inch all scraps. Decided the GmFG needed to have another set of flowers on one side and bottom to make it fix our queen size bed and have about half of them done. I've got all sorts of wip - just need to get working on them. Robert, from northern Iowa.
